Youth Employment and Livelihood Initative

Country: Global | Focus: Youth | Goal:  $10,000

Provide youth livelihood opportunities, helping to break the cycle of poverty.

Program Goal:  To ensure young people are employed under non-exploitative conditions for a period of five years at a rate equal to or above the national unemployment rate. In instances in which employment is not possible, ChildFund will provide young people with training, equipment, marketing contacts and, in some instances, contracts to assist the youth with self-employment.

Expected Results:  ChildFund will provide youth with relevant skills and training, enabling them the opportunity to experience a productive working life.

 

Raising dairy cows can become a lifelong livelihood. Youth will be trained in livestock management including selecting, feeding and milking cows, and building an appropriate shed. In addition, ChildFund will establish a community milk collection center, where the milk the youth produce will be sold at a good price through a major milk distributor.

 

Tailoring is in demand. ChildFund will train youth to develop a tailoring business and sewing machines and lessons will be provided. ChildFund will identify a major buyer such as a primary school and obtain a contract to provide school uniforms.
